An administrative centre to the West of the Italian Riviera, the city of Imperia was founded in 1923 by the union of rival cities Porto Maurizio and Oneglia. This dual nature has left its mark on countless aspects of the town and its history. While quite a small city of some 40.000 inhabitants, Imperia has 2 railway stations, 2 ports, 2 theatres, 2 patron saints, etc! The Commune runs from the sea to the first slopes of the Alps, with warm summers and mild winters.
